Dried white fungus, scientifically known as Tremella fuciformis, is an edible mushroom species that naturally grows on deciduous trees in Asia and is well-known under names such as snow fungus and white wood ear. The mushroom is sold in dried form and must be soaked in cold water before preparation – soaking should continue until the center is soft, which typically takes about 60 minutes. After soaking, rinse the mushroom thoroughly in clean water and clean it carefully before boiling it in fresh water for at least 10 minutes. Afterwards, the water can be drained, and the mushroom can be further prepared with spices such as garlic or soy sauce in a wok or pot. The mushroom has a characteristic crisp and slightly gelatinous texture, as well as a very mild, almost neutral taste, making it suitable for absorbing flavors from other ingredients in the dish. It is traditionally used in Chinese soups and broths but also works well in stir-fries and other Asian recipes. The package contains 100 g of dried white fungus with the preservative E220 (sulfites). Please note that due to the harvesting and packaging process, pieces of bark may be present in the packaging. The product must not be consumed untreated, and raw mushrooms should not come into contact with other foods for food safety reasons.
