Description
Dried Black Mushrooms (Cloud Ear Fungus) - 100 g
Dried black mushrooms belong to the mushroom species Auricularia polytricha and are a well-known ingredient in Asian, especially Chinese, cuisine. The mushroom is also referred to as cloud ear fungus or wood ear fungus due to its characteristic, undulating shape, resembling an ear. In their dried state, the mushrooms are compact and dark, but expand significantly when soaked. To prepare the mushrooms for cooking, soak them in lukewarm water for 20 to 30 minutes until they are soft and pliable. After this, cut off the hard stem ends and rinse the mushrooms thoroughly before use. The rehydrated mushrooms can be used in a wide range of dishes, including stir-fries, soups, stews, and cold salads, where they absorb the flavors from other ingredients and spices. The mushrooms themselves have a very mild and slightly sweet taste without a dominant aroma, which makes them versatile and easy to combine with many different flavorings. The texture is soft and slightly gelatinous after soaking, which provides an interesting mouthfeel in the dish. The product is supplied in a sealed bag with a net content of 100 g and should be stored dry and cool, away from direct sunlight. For longer storage, refrigeration at 0-8 °C is recommended. The mushrooms contain vitamins, protein, iron, and polysaccharides and are a natural plant-based food product without the addition of meat or animal products, making them suitable for vegetarian and vegan diets. Dried black mushrooms are a popular ingredient for Asian soups, noodle dishes, and stir-fries, and they are a good choice for anyone wanting to explore Asian cuisine at home. The product contains sulfur dioxide (E220) as a preservative.
